Where to coffee in Bucharest 2.0

As I’ve already told you how I started my coffee lover journey here, I find it hard not to share with you some other coffee places that I truly enjoy.

Throught the years I’ve come to the point where I really enjoy looking for new spots to savour a cup of coffee. As it happens, I am not a person that drinks a lot of coffee during the week, as most people do. I prefer to gain my strenght from other things, like a balanced sleeping schedule or relaxing hobbies, so that I can enjoy a good cup of coffee solely for it’s flavor, scent and those lovely places where I would love to spent every morning in my life.

About 5 years ago I was introduced to speciality coffee for the first time, which I learned to always drink without any sugars and to keep the focus on the savour – with tones of chocolate, a variety of fruits or other hidden inner flavours. Probably, the first place that I visited was Origo Coffee Shop, but soon I discovered a lot of cozy places that I would love to share with you.

A small and cozy espresso bar that is very nicely located at a 2 minute walk away from the hottest spot in Bucharest – The Romanian Athenaeum. There’s always something new that you can find here, from delicious fresh treats for your sweet thoot every weekend or, from time to time, gin tasting evenings with the staff.

The Urbanist is clearly not your typical coffee shop. It is a perfect mix between a speciality coffee place, urban shopping experience and a pre-party clubhouse. This is a very cozy place, maybe beacause of their homey swing, right in the middle of the old town of Bucharest. Even if this place is so close to this noisy nightlife of Bucharest, it is still far enough for a private and friendly night.

Sonder – the profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one’s own, which they are constantly living despite one’s personal lack of awareness of it. This coffee shop is one candid mix of minimalist scandinavian architectural hidden before a fascinating classic 20th century facade. For me, this is a perfect example of a contemporary coffee place where I would love to stay all day – enjoying a great coffee while either working on my computer or having a great time with my friends.

Industrial and concrete designs mixed with nonchalant contemporary touches, right underneath the OAR house – Romanians Architects Order house. Many different architectural styles in Bucharest bring a lot of opportunities of restoration and repurposing – this being a lovely example of giving new life to an old vagon style building.

Is it a gallery or a coffee shop? Actually, I think you get the best of both worlds. Here you will find high ceilings and large windows, being the perfect spot to take your coffee pill and just get the right amount of sunshine and a cup of vitamin D. Located in the Old City, this might be your favourite place to stop during the weekdays before work or in between classes, or in the weekends with your friends because they are open until late!

MAD.GOAT is a chic cozy corner, with warm colors and modern design, that welcomes you anytime of the day. It is located somewhere between Calea Victoriei and Unirii Square and it’s one of the only coffee shops right on the banks of Dâmbovița river. Even if it’s a pretty small coffee shop, you’ll find many reasons to come by once again looking for their tasty coffee, the lovely staff or just because you’re crazy in love with their name.

One of my favourite hidden gems in Bucharest. Perfect terrace for a hot summer day, but also a very comfortable place in winter. La vita e Velo is a bicycle oriented shop that serves a really good coffee and settles the best atmosphere.
